3 Easy Ways to Increase IG Engagement

Updated: Jun 21, 2021

Posting on Instagram every day can feel monotonous, especially when you're not getting as many likes, comments, and followers as you'd like. Start using these simple tricks today to immediately increase your engagement.

1. Use Hashtags Properly:

Hashtags are your best friend. They're what's going to get you out there to hundreds of thousands of new accounts, potential followers, and more importantly - potential customers! Don't feel obligated to change up each of your hashtags with every post, that's too much work. Use a base of 20 hashtags that go along with every post, and then diversify with the last 10 hashtags depending on what specific photo that you're posting.

For example, if you're a jewelry shop, you should always use these hashtags:

Then, if you post a photo of purple butterfly dangle earrings, you can add these:

Keep your 20 base hashtags in a note on your phone for easy access and to reduce the amount of work you have to do with each post!

2. Stay Active:

Staying active is vital for being successful on Instagram. Not only does this show your followers that you're dedicated, but it also keeps your products in front of potential customers.

SIMPLE KEYS TO SUCCESS:

- Post 1-2 x per day. Try to post twice per day, during times that there's a lot of user engagement - once in the morning, and once in the afternoon/evening depending on the day. This graph by SproutSocial is really great to refer back to:

- Follow similar accounts as well as accounts that you see as potential clients. You can find these accounts using hashtags and locations.

- Comment on 5-10 other instagram photos per day. Try to comment on and follow 5 accounts before you post, and then another 5 accounts right after you post! This is a triple whammy and will really maximize your reach every day.

3. Get Creative:

Post other non-product photos that are related to your shop's style to diversify your feed. It's really easy to do this on a 2-1-2-1 grid, posting two listing photos, and then one non-listing photo. You can see an example of this below.

You don't want to bore your followers by posting the same style of photo everyday. By getting creative and diversifying your feed, it can help your followers (and soon-to-be customers) feel more attached to your sense of style and who you and your brand are. Imagine Macy's during the holiday season. You walk in to their store and you're bombarded with gorgeous decorations, colorful lights, and a that special holiday feeling. You can try to achieve a similar goal by striking a tone with your followers as well. When they go to your page for the firs time, you want them to immediately get that "feeling". Do you want to go for a whimsical feel? A dark and edgy feel? A bright and summery beach feeling? Let the photos speak for themselves to create your perfect aesthetic.
